“Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling.” -Margaret Lee Runbeck

Transitions can be some of the most difficult, confusing, and terrifying events you go through in life. The Women’s Resource Center is here to help you through those transitions and make them happy and exciting times in your life rather than stressful and scary.

On April 3rd, WRC is partnering with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Inc. to host a Finding Happiness – In Transition Panel. GFWC, Inc. is more than 100+ years old and provides ongoing support to WRC.

Join us for an evening filled with networking, panel discussion, and learning to navigate life’s transitions. This event will be held at our WRC Sarasota Center, (340 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota) from 5-6:30pm. Our featured panelists are Dr. Willa Bernhard and Dr. Nancy Schlossberg.

Dr. Nancy Schlossberg taught at Howard University, Wayne State University, and 26 years at the University of Maryland, College Park where she is now a Professor Emerita. She was the first woman executive the American Council on Education.

She has been honored by the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. She received the 2016 Teachers College, Columbia University Distinguished Alumni Award, the Friendship Centers Visionary Award in October 2017 and the 2018 American Psychological Association Citizen Psychologist Presidential Citation

She has written ten books. Her new book, Too Young to be Old: Love, Learn, Work, and Play as you Age, focuses on the transitions we make as we age. Dr. Schlossberg has been quoted widely in the media and appeared on many TV programs.

Dr. Willa Bernhard is a researcher, writer for Women on the Web, psychotherapist, educator, and former WRC board member whose passion for equity drives her perspective. She also helped establish an education fund that will reward children in the Guardian ad Litem Program who have shown a commitment to their studies and who have overcome personal and academic challenges.

She participates with SOURCE Productions, an innovative theatre, video, and film program that teaches young adult volunteers about theatre, acting, life skills, and sex education. As a theatre buff, Dr. Bernhard also offers to be interviewed by the Florida Studio Theatre from time to time so the actors can get a real sense of how older people think, feel, and react. And each theater season, if she particularly likes one of their plays, she sponsors it.
