Joan Krauter is the Executive Editor of the Bradenton Herald and our 21st out of our series of 25 Wonder Women.

Joan is the one person who we did not inform of her nomination as one of the Women’s Resource Center’s Wonder Women, she loathes the limelight! Joan has been the instigator of the Bradenton Herald’s weekly “I Am Woman, Hear Me Write” series and has been so willing to nurture the women who have been willing to open up their lives and their souls in the weekly columns; giving others the opportunity to express themselves and grow.

Joan grew up in Florissant, Mo., attending Lutheran High School North. A graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia with a Bachelor’s in Journalism she started working while in school at the Columbia Daily Tribune as an Assistant Editor. Her career has included an impressive array of newspapers including the Washington Post, Fort Worth Star-telegram, The Denver Post and Newsday. Joan arrived at the Bradenton Herald in 1989 and has lead the newsroom since 1998.

Joan, a diehard Cardinals fan married fellow journalist Jim this past May and has shared her journey through two breast cancer surgeries and the chemo treatments with us, showing us such strength, humor, and courage but always giving someone else credit for showing her how to deal with life’s struggles.

Joan, you are a wonder woman in our eyes!
